Sports can be seen all throughout history. During ancient times, it was a considered as a political battle for power, authority, and survival. The overall objective is to defeat one's opponent and rise to the top. In modern times, it has evolved into a good source of physical activity, leisure, and considered to be a favorite source of entertainment. Basketball, soccer, boxing, and baseball are all well-known athletics across the world. When it comes to sports, the Philippines is regarded for having the most followers and supporters.
As humans adapt to technology in current times, sports evolve as well. Because most people now have access to several technological devices such as smartphones, laptops, and PCs, the birth of Esports has grown tremendously in recent years. Esports (Electronic Sports) combines online gaming into a live viewing sport. It is similar to watching a pro athletic competition, but rather than spectating a physical tournament, viewers watch online gaming. DOTA, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Valorant, and Call of Duty are some of the well-known games that has a high number of followers. However, some argue that because it does not include physical movements such as running or lifting, it is considered a skill rather than a sport. Consequently, during the Consumer Technology Association 2020 event, Dean Takashi, the Lead Writer for GameBeat, believed that Esports is considered as a sport, same to how online games are categorized as entertainment. Professional Esports Players and traditional Sports Players possess comparable features, according to Bryan de Zayas, Dell's Global Director of Marketing. Both players train and devote their time to achieve qualified skills.
Sports evolve from time to time as people progress and adapt to the next generation. Sports changed many lives and it will continue to become part of many different cultures. Esports and Conventional Sports both still offer entertainment to people, it is enjoyed by many, even both jocks and gamers. The question is whether or not people are prepared to enter a new world of sports and acknowledge the emergence of Esports?
