Summer is officially over, and yet another school year has started! The JPMAP-PLM had conducted its first event of the year entitled, "Square One: Leap to a Fresh Start." It aims to guide the first-year students of HROM to have a background about the Pamantasan and what they expect in this school year and the succeeding years. The program was conducted via MS Teams, and Facebook live last October 11, 2022, at precisely 1:10 pm. The event was mainly for first-year students. However, the higher years were also encouraged to join the online event. This event was presided over by Colline Joanne L. Pinlac, the JPMAP-PLM Committee Officer for Membership, and Danica Ann F. Esteban, the JPMAP-PLM Chairperson for Membership.
The event started with an opening prayer led by Apple Joy L. Villaespen, the JPMAP-PLM Director for Corporate and Social Responsibility, followed by the Philippine National Anthem singing. For the opening remarks, an inspiring statement was shared by the JPMAP-PLM President, Aleyah Karylle F. Garma. The message generally talks about the diversity of life in a university. She states that school is vital because it teaches its students the principles and techniques to help them succeed. It is dynamic, full of enthusiasm, and entails inspiring aspects. The JPMAP-PLM president also thanked the JPMAP-PLM Officers and the whole HROM Community for the event would not be possible if it weren't for them. The moderators also shared some memorable experiences and expectations, as face-to-face classes are already being conducted inside the Pamantasan.
One of the topics discussed during the event was the courses offered by the PLM Business school, headed by the PLM-BS Dean, Bernard Letrero, and the Assistant Dean, Jasmin Jocson. Part of those courses is the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Human Resource Management - BSBA HRM, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Operations Management - BSBA OM. The moderators defined Human Resource Management and Operations Management and what they would expect in the coming years, especially what kind of professions they could take upon graduating. The viewers also gave positive feedback on why they had chosen their course in college.
Different PLM-BS academic and non-academic organizations were also presented, one of which was the Junior People Management Association of the Philippines – Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (JPMAP-PLM) Chapter. The organization embodies the whole HROM Community and accommodates the student's concerns regarding their course. As they welcomed the new set of officers for the school year 2022-2023, they shared some of their planned future events that would happen during their terms, such as the Help Desk, webinar series, events for the transition of academics to the professional world, and the general assembly. The organization also announced the launch of The Torch – PLM Chapter for the school year 2022-2023, wherein aspiring writers can register to join the publication website. Digital slam books were distributed to the first-year students as a token to help them organize matters creatively.
The event was concluded with the singing of the PLM Hymn and a warm closing remark from Jonathan Villote, the JPMAP-PLM adviser, as he congratulated the event's success. He also hopes the viewers comprehend and instill in their minds what they learned during the event. He hopes the community will continue to help each other and work together in the future.
